Websites for tradies · Australia

Websites for tradies that get calls.

Websites for tradies have one job: get the person on the other end of the search to ring you or send a quote request. We design and build tradie websites around that job, with a page for every service and area you work in, a phone number one tap away, and real photos of your work.

Why most tradie websites flop

Your current site might be the problem.

✕ A template that looks like every other tradie in town
✕ Slow on mobile, which is where your customers are searching
✕ The phone number is buried, or can't be tapped
✕ One "Services" page trying to rank for everything, so it ranks for nothing
✕ Stock photos of someone else's work
✕ The web designer owns the domain and the logins, not you
What the site is for

Think about who's actually on the page.

Most people who land on a tradie website are standing in a kitchen with a leaking tap, a tripped switch or a quote from another builder they're not sure about. They're on a phone, often with one hand, and they've got three or four of your competitors open in other tabs.

In the first few seconds they want four answers. Do you do this job? Do you come to my suburb? Can I trust you in my house? How do I get hold of you? Good website design for tradies answers all four above the fold on a phone screen, without making anyone scroll, pinch or hunt. Everything else on the site is there to back those answers up.

That's why we plan the pages and the path to a call before anyone opens a design tool. A site can look sharp and still lose the job if the number is hard to find or the form asks for twelve fields.

Tradie website design

What a tradie website needs to win the call.

Click-to-call everywhere

A tappable phone number in the header and a call button that stays on screen as people scroll on mobile. Calls are tracked so you know which page and which channel they came from.

Short quote forms

Name, phone, suburb, what the job is, and an optional photo upload. Every extra field costs you enquiries. The photo helps you price the job before you drive out.

A page per service

Hot water, switchboard upgrades, decks, re-roofs: each service gets its own page with its own heading, photos and questions answered. That's how you show up for the specific search.

Pages for the areas you work

Suburb or region pages that say something real about working there. Not the same paragraph with the suburb name swapped, which Google treats as thin and customers see straight through.

Fast on a phone signal

Compressed images, no heavy sliders or autoplay video, and a build that loads quickly on mobile data. Speed is part of how Google ranks pages and part of whether people wait.

Proof people believe

Photos of your actual jobs, your Google reviews, your licence details and the areas you cover. Real proof beats a stock photo of a smiling bloke in a hard hat every time.

Service and suburb pages

How tradie websites get found for the right jobs.

01

Service pages match the search

Someone searching for a blocked drain isn't looking for your gas fitting work. A page built around that one service, with the words customers use, photos of that type of job and the questions people ask about it, is far more likely to rank and far more likely to convert than a list of twenty services on one page.

What to look for: if your site has one "Services" page, that's usually the first thing to fix.
02

Area pages need real substance

Build pages for the suburbs and regions you genuinely want work in. Mention the jobs you've done there, the housing stock you deal with and how quickly you can get out. Mass-produced suburb pages with swapped names can drag the whole site down.

What to look for: fewer, better area pages beat a hundred copies.
03

Photos of real work

Before and after shots, the finished bathroom, the tidy switchboard, the ute on site. Take them on your phone as you go. We'll pick the best, compress them so they load fast and label them properly so they help search too.

What to look for: if a photo could be on any tradie's site, it isn't doing much for yours.
04

Tracking from day one

Call tracking, form tracking, Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Search Console set up before launch. When you're paying for ads or search engine optimisation (SEO), you should be able to see which calls came from where.

What to look for: if nobody can tell you how many calls the site produced last month, it isn't set up.

What you should own

Your website, in your name.

Plenty of tradies find out their website isn't really theirs only when they try to leave a web designer. Before you sign with anyone, including us, make sure these sit with you:

The domain name. Registered in your business name, with your email as the contact. If you lose the domain, you lose every link, review click and printed business card that points at it.

Hosting and admin access. You should have your own login to the hosting account and the website's content management system (CMS), even if you never use it.

Analytics, Search Console and your Google Business Profile (GBP). All owned by your Google account, with your agency added as a user. Not the other way round.

The content and photos. The words and images on your site should be yours to take with you. We work month-to-month with 30 days notice and no minimum term, so none of this is used to lock anyone in.

Web design for tradies

Templates or custom? It depends where you're at.

When a template is fine

You're a sole trader just starting out, you do one or two services in a small area, and you mainly need somewhere to send people who've already heard of you. A clean template with your phone number, a few real photos and your reviews can do that job. Just make sure you own the domain and the account.

When custom earns its keep

You're competing in a busy area, you offer several services across a range of suburbs, you're running Google Ads, or you want the site to bring in new customers through search. That's where page structure, speed and tracking matter, and where templates start to fight you.

Not sure which camp you're in? Run your current site through our free website checker first. It's a quick way to see whether the problem is the site itself or something else.

How it fits with the rest

A website on its own is a shopfront on a back street.

A good tradie website doesn't bring people in by itself. It's where the rest of your marketing sends them, and it decides how many of those people turn into calls.

SEO is how the site gets found for free. The service and suburb pages above are the foundation, and they're what SEO for tradies builds on month after month. Building them in from the start saves paying to restructure the site later.

Google Ads is how you get calls while SEO builds. Ads send people to a specific landing page, so a site with a clear page for each service makes every click work harder. See how we run Google Ads for tradies.

Your branding is what makes the site look like the business on the side of the ute. If your logo is holding things back, logo design for tradies is worth sorting before or alongside the build.

Common questions

Website design for tradies FAQs.

How much does a tradie website cost?
It depends on what the site needs to do. The biggest drivers are the number of service and area pages, whether we're writing the content and sorting the photos, any extras like online booking or finance calculators, and whether there's an existing site with rankings to carry across. A simple site for a sole trader and a multi-service site covering a whole region are very different jobs. We quote on your actual scope after the free marketing review, not from a generic range.
How long does it take to build?
Four to eight weeks, depending on how complex the site is. Most of that time goes into content, not code: if your service list, service areas and job photos are ready, it moves at the quicker end. Sites with lots of service and suburb pages sit at the longer end, because each page needs its own content to be worth ranking.
Do I need a separate page for every suburb?
No. Build pages for the areas you actually want work from and can say something real about. A handful of useful area pages will do more than dozens of near-identical ones, which can hurt the rest of the site.
What photos should I be taking?
Before and after shots, finished work from a couple of angles, you and your team on site, and your vehicle. Phone photos in decent light are fine. What matters is that they're real and they're yours.
Will it work with Google Ads?
Yes. Conversion tracking for calls and forms goes in before launch, and each service page can double as a landing page for its ad group. That gives Google a clear match between the search, the ad and the page, and lets you see which campaigns bring in work.
Can I update it myself?
Yes. You get your own login to add jobs, swap photos or change your hours. If you'd rather not touch it, we can handle updates for you.
What happens to my existing Google rankings?
We map every existing page that gets traffic to its new address and set up permanent (301) redirects, so the rankings and links you've earned carry across. Skipping this step is the most common way a rebuild loses traffic.
