SEO for law firms and the lawyers in them.
SEO for law firms (search engine optimisation) is how a firm shows up when someone searches for a family lawyer, a conveyancer or a criminal defence solicitor in their area. We build the practice-area pages, location pages, solicitor profiles and Google Business Profile that earn those rankings, then measure the result in enquiries by matter type.
matter type
Nobody searches for "a law firm".
People search for their problem, usually under some stress. "Separation lawyer Parramatta." "Drink driving charge what happens." "How long does probate take in Queensland." Each of those is a different person with a different matter, and each one lands on whichever page answers them most directly. A firm website with one "Our Services" page listing eight practice areas rarely wins any of them.
Good lawyer SEO is the work of matching the site to those searches: one strong page per matter type, pages for the places the firm genuinely serves, and enough visible proof of who the solicitors are that Google and the reader both trust the page. It uses the same foundations as our general SEO service, with extra care in two areas. Google holds legal content to a higher standard than most topics, and everything published has to sit within the professional conduct rules that govern how lawyers advertise.
Six pieces that do the ranking.
A page for each practice area
Family law, criminal law, wills and estates, conveyancing, personal injury and commercial law each get their own page, written for the person searching for that matter rather than one page trying to cover the lot.
Location pages that are actually local
Pages for the suburbs, regions and courts the firm genuinely serves, with enough local substance to be worth reading. No thin copies with the suburb swapped.
Google Business Profile, set up for the firm's structure
The listing in the map results, built properly for how the firm is actually structured, including a verified profile for each office.
Solicitor profiles that carry weight
Every solicitor gets a proper profile covering admission, practice areas and the matters they handle, so the advice on the site has a named person behind it.
Reviews within professional conduct limits
A steady, consistent way of asking clients at the end of a matter, checked against the firm's conduct obligations before anything goes out.
Content that answers questions without giving advice
Articles built around what clients actually ask at a first meeting, written as general information and reviewed by a solicitor before they go live.
Measured in matters, not rankings.
Enquiries by matter type
A ranking report can look healthy while the phone stays quiet. We report enquiries by practice area, so you can see whether search is producing family law work, estate matters or conveyancing, and which pages brought them in. Rankings are watched as an early signal, not as the result.
Honest timelines
SEO for lawyers is slower than Google Ads, and we won't put a number of weeks on it that we can't back. How long it takes depends on how established the site already is, how competitive each practice area is in your city, how many pages need building, and how quickly solicitors can review content. Technical fixes and Google Business Profile improvements come first because they can be done straight away. Practice-area rankings build after that.
Your website is legal marketing too.
Legal marketing, including website content, practice-area pages, blog articles and review replies, has to comply with the professional conduct rules in the firm's state or territory. Personal injury advertising in particular is restricted in some jurisdictions, which affects what a personal injury page can say and how it can be promoted. The rules differ between jurisdictions, so we check each page against the rules that apply to the firm before it is published, and the firm signs off on everything.
We cover how those rules apply to marketing in more detail in the advertising rules section of our marketing for lawyers page.
From page 4 to #1 for its own name.
For a Darwin law firm, we ran SEO alongside a rebuild of its Google Ads account. The firm now ranks #1 when people search for it by name, up from page 4. Brand searches come from people who have already heard of the firm, often through a referral, so being hard to find for them was costing enquiries the firm had already earned.
The ranking result is for brand searches only, measured Jul 1 to Jul 31, 2026. That firm's Google Ads results are on the Google Ads for law firms page. See the full case study.
